He was a prominent and well respected person in hometown of Vijayawada where he ran a bus transportation company (Vijaya Lakshmi Transport) during the period of 1950 to 1960.

Being a true follower of Mahatma Gandhi he could never compromise his honesty and straight forwardness to be a successful business man. End result was he lost everything and had to start from scratch to support his wife and his eleven children. This prompted him to buy a land of 40 acres in a very remote place, which is nothing but a deep forest. He had to spend rest of his life making it work for him. Period of 1960 to 1990 were the toughest years for him and his family.

Annapurnamma was the silent warrior in all his life battles and endured un imaginable hardship keeping the family going and bringing up her eleven children. Below is the letter that gives a brief glimpse into his mindset during that period. This was written by E.V.R. Sarma on March 29th, 1979.
